Social media keeps evolving meaning that trends will come and go. We have said goodbye to simple status updates and welcomed social selling, branding and growing digital communities. We have seen the creator community grow, the impact of memes, the rise of influencers, and the TikTok takeover.
With each social media trend comes numerous user experiences and opinions. Recently Instagram received backlash for trying to include a full-feed with algorithmically selected posts with the intention of ‘trying to be like TikTOK’ pushing video content forward.
From the staying power of short video content to emphasis on mental health and brand collaborations; here are our team opinions on current social media trends. Please note that these opinions are not in any way a reflection of any management or company standards. They are simply views from our team.

Not sure I can call it a “trend” but these days, it seems everybody is an expert! From skincare to relationships to wellness, everybody’s got an “expert” opinion. This gets dangerous when these opinions are stated as facts and backed up with little to no research and actual facts.
But, there is a way to leverage this trend as a business/creator. Do.Your.Research. If you want to be known as an expert in your field, you have to do more than post a fun reel or four. Take a deep dive into the world of [insert chosen field] and make sure all your claims can be backed up by facts. That way, your audience will know they can trust you and people do business with people they can trust!

Guilt Free Social Media Breaks
The algorithms favor consistent posting and engagement in order to achieve growth to a certain extent. However, I decided a few years ago to take breaks; I still practice the same routine from time to time.
Deleting one or two of the apps and intentionally dedicating that time to another hobby-pure bliss.
The realization that taking care of my mind is more important than constantly striving to keep up with content creation, and a schedule was pivotal. As well as doing a self audit that highlighted the fact that social media is something I do for fun; therefore making it a source of stress was nipping at my creative joy.
Learning to preserve my mind’s health above everything.

An emphasis on mental health, mind wellness and preventing burnout.
This year has been different for so many reasons but one of them being that the world has been opening up and we are slowly entering the post covid era (cautiously of course so please continue washing your hands and sanitizing!) This shift has also been evident in how people showcase their lives, interests and everything in between on social media. My current favorite trend is how the current conversations online are surrounding our relationship with social media and how it affects us. A great example of this is the Take a Break campaign launched by Instagram on their creators account, this campaign had a unique feature that allowed users to receive a break reminder in app after a duration of their choosing. [currently being test in the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand].
While this is a step in the right direction, I am curious to see how other social media platforms will respond in creating campaigns that advocate for mind wellness and rest.

Social Media Influencers
Micro influencers get the job done because they have a targeted audience and best understand brand-consumer satisfaction. In most cases, Macro influencers are more about how much they are earning from brand collaborations and what these partnerships will do for their ‘name’
I am living for the content and brand collaborations between micro influencers and brands because they understand the assignment, they aim of quality over quantity and always deliver the best engagement rates while being authentic.

Dance challenges
They have helped artists of certain songs become more popular. A lot of different dance choreography has evolved and spread all over the world. But, people rarely like or know the actual song and this reduces the listens on apps like Spotify and apple music.

Remixing or repurposing content from other content creators/entertainers.
Remixing or repurposing other creators’ content allows you to create various types of content. Since the introduction of Instagram reels, various accounts/ pages dedicated to clipping videos from different sources across the internet. With the new addition of remixes, you are now even able to react or even copy the clip of your choosing.
Businesses can use this to their advantage on social media, especially if they aren’t in a creative field or don’t create their own content, as all they need is to find content that fits their brand.

With the above social media trend opinions, it can be deduced that trends come and go. In recent develops, Instagram has help the number one spot in most marketer and user’s hearts. Do let us know any of your opinions on current social media trends.
