Do You Need An Instagram Threads Strategy?

Hello Everybody,

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO, shared that 2 million people signed up for Threads within the first two hours of the app’s launch, which makes Threads not only the newest app in town but also the most popular at the moment.

Instagram’s Threads app, is a text-based social media platform poised to become Twitter’s latest competitor and is now available to users in more than 100 countries. The app enables users to sign up straight from their Instagram accounts and the app has a scrollable feed of short-form text limited to 500 characters a post, with the ability to add individual or carousel photos and videos.

Posts include content from accounts users follow, as well as from creators suggested by the platform’s recommendation algorithm. Viewers can engage by liking, commenting, reposting, including quoting a post and sharing to their Instagram story or feed.

While most features mimic those of Twitter, its user interface design resembles Instagram’s, with the same heart, comment and share buttons and similarly placed tabs.

Threads is already stirring up conversations amongst social marketers, creators, and business owners alike. Many of these individuals want to know if Threads needs a social media strategy, short answer? Not right now, here’s what you need to do instead.

1 . Experiment & Explore The App.

Threads is new for everyone — we’re (all 30M of us) learning together. Take a look at how big brands you follow are jumping on and having fun. Study the app’s tonality, and feel. Study what content is likely to perform better and why it is performing better. Have fun while doing so because this is the time to experiment with new ideas. If you’re looking to connect with like-minded people, be sure to interact and engage with relevant accounts to see more of their content on your Threads feed.

The Instagram and Threads worlds are very much interconnected. For example, If you’re verified on Instagram (which you can now pay for), that verification will roll over into Threads. And you can cross-post your threads on Instagram as a story, or as a link to another platform.

2 . Connect with Your Community.

Consider Threads another way to connect and engage with your community. Due to the nature of the app, there’s a high chance your Instagram followers will cross over to follow you on Threads too hence you are not entirely starting from scratch. As a business, individual, creative or Influencer, be strategic with who you will engage and harness your community accordingly so that as you begging to build a strategy later, your audience will align with your strategy accordingly. Continue doing what already works for your brand but experiment with more text-focused content.  Plus, with Twitter and Threads’ glaring similarities, repurposing your Twitter content is OKAY too.

3 . Take Your Time.

Don’t overthink it, for now, set up your Threads profile so users can easily follow you, and then post when you’re ready.

Remember, there’s no pressure to share the right content or have a Threads strategy set in stone. Continue to manage other social media platforms as per usual, while still getting yourself familiar with the Threads app as you study the algorithm.

With the above tips, all you have to do right now is sign up, don’t be too serious with your content, and engage with other like-minded people and brands. We’ll all just wait and see how this social platform develops and what trends to follow/drop.
